Dashboard reDesign

Tutorial Index Page.
Less than 2 minutes read.

I make a few routine calculations as part of the study plan/ workflow. When these are repeated on a daily basis, it becomes burdensome, even if it consumes just about a minute or two. I am documenting two such experiences here, and the suggested redesign is subjective to my preference.

1.In the above Desktop snippet of a tutorial page,

Operation 1: Calculate the number of lessons left: 143-59 = 84 (Repeated frequently, everyday) 'How many lessons am I left with'?

It gives a better idea of the course load left and to plan or re adjust the pace/schedule. Hence it is helpful to show lessons remaining alongside lessons completed, or just the lessons remaining depending on what the user data /research says is more user friendly.

I asked for feedback from a friend who made an interesting observation that it would be demotivating for her to see the load left and may discontinue the course itself.
Hence I felt it would be better to add a small course planner widget in the index page.

2. I would  require a few extra decisions to plan on the go. If I were to do a lesson on my phone while in a bus, and my journey time is only 15 minutes,  I feel the need to know how much time each tutorial takes, more than when I am on my desktop.
What's interesting to me is that their mobile version  hides the time length of each video altogether. On the desktop version, it shows time of each video right next to the blue ticks area (figure below).

Original Mobile design:

Operation 2. How many did I skip within a section? How long to finish the incomplete sections? How long does the section take in all?

Each section has multiple chapters of varying length. I calculate how many chapters are left within each section and how long it takes to complete them all, to start one that fits my schedule.
I also calculate how long each section takes in general. The videos' time length has numbers like 18:13, 1:30 etc which isn't smooth for calculating my my head.

Length of the list:

The list of sections and the contents is very long (List of 143 items to scroll down!) and as I progress in the course, I have to scroll down a lot and click open various sections. Instead,  a horizontal scroll bar of  progress data that jumps to the selected section will be helpful.
